Write a typed paragraph
Editors can write a complete paragraph that is ready to send for review. The type, the place and the chart numbers travel with the text.
Steps
Write one paragraph at a time. Keep the fields beside the text so you can see what review will need.
Choose a type
Pick one type from aid to navigation, hazard, anchorage, bridge and cable, regulation, general, caution or note. The type is required and cannot be left blank.
Write the text
Enter the title and the body text in plain words. Keep one subject in the paragraph so it can be reused and reviewed on its own.
Add geography and chart numbers
Enter the geography, coordinates when known, chart numbers and source. Add the values from the controlled lists where the form offers them, so spelling stays consistent.
Preview print and web
Preview the paragraph as it will appear in print and on the web before you save. Check the heading order and the field labels with keyboard or screen reader controls if you use them.
Save with a reason
Add a short reason for the save and choose Save draft. The paragraph locks while it is open, so a second editor sees who holds it.
Check the version history
Open History to confirm the save appears with your name, the date and the reason you gave. A draft still needs geography and chart numbers before it can move to in review.
Check
Confirm the paragraph is complete before you send it for review.
- The type is set and the body text is present.
- Geography and at least one chart number are present.
- The preview shows the paragraph in chapter order.
- The version history shows the save with who, when and why.
- The paragraph shows as draft and locked only while open.
Fields and reuse
How the fields help review, search and publish.
Type
The type tells a reader and a reviewer what kind of statement this is. Hazards and cautions stay findable by type instead of being lost in body text.
Geography and charts
Geography and chart numbers are required before a paragraph can move to in review, so weekly sets and data files can be built from fields rather than from reading prose.
Reuse
Save repeated wording once as a reusable block and insert it by reference where it is needed. The detail screen shows where it is used, and a change updates every place that uses it with a record of who changed it and why.
