Change requests

Change requests from mariners and field units

Report a change in plain words, without an account, keep your reference code, and check what happens next.

Report a change: place, chart number, description and contact detail without an account

Use the public form from a phone or computer. You do not need a workspace account to send a report.

  1. Pick the paragraph or area

Open the published paragraph you were reading, or choose the area, if you do not know the paragraph. Note the place name shown on the page.

  2. Describe what changed

Write what you observed in plain words, and what you think the text should say. Keep one change in one report where you can.

  3. Add chart number and location

Enter the chart number and, when you know it, latitude and longitude or a landmark. These fields help an editor find the right paragraph.

  4. Add your name and contact detail

Enter your name and the email or phone you want staff to use. Staff can only reply if you give a contact detail.

  5. Send the form and keep the reference code

Select Send, then copy or save the reference code and the status link from the confirmation. You need both to check status later.

  6. Check what happens next on the confirmation

Read the confirmation before you close it. It says the report was received and how to check its status.

Triage: link a report to paragraphs, assign an editor, accept or decline with a reason

Staff work through the triage queue in this order. A report cannot be accepted until it links to at least one paragraph.

  1. Filter the queue by status, area and linked paragraph

Open Change requests, filter by status, area or chart number, then open the report with the oldest received date first.

  2. Read the report and find the paragraph

Check the place, chart number and description, then search Paragraphs by area and chart number to find the paragraph it changes.

  3. Link the report to at least one paragraph

Link each paragraph the report changes. If no paragraph matches, note the chapter and place so an editor can place it.

  4. Assign an editor, set priority and due date

Assign the report to an editor, set priority and a due date, then save. The editor can open the linked paragraph from the report.

  5. Accept, return for more detail, or decline with a plain reason

Record Accept when the change will be written, Return when you need more detail, or Decline with a plain reason the sender can read. Declining without a reason is not allowed.

  6. Let the editor write the change and send it for review

The editor edits the paragraph as a new version, sends it for review, and the report moves to published only when its linked paragraph is approved and published.

  • A report cannot be marked accepted until at least one paragraph is linked
  • Declining requires a plain reason the sender can read
  • A report moves to published only when its linked paragraph is approved and published

Status: check status by reference code and read plain updates

Use your reference code and the contact detail from your form. You will see dates and a short note at each step, never internal notes.

  1. Enter the reference code and contact detail

Open the status lookup, enter the reference code from your confirmation and the email or phone from your form, then select Check status.

  2. Read the timeline

Read each step in order, such as received, in triage, accepted, published or declined, with the date it happened.

  3. Reply if more detail is asked

If the status asks for more detail, add the location, chart detail or clarification it asks for, then send the reply from the status page.

  4. Follow the link when it publishes

When the status shows published, follow the link to the published paragraph and the edition or weekly set where the change appears.

Signed in field units can also open My reports to see each report they sent, with status and linked paragraph, in one list.

Keep your reference code

Save the code from your confirmation. It is the only key you need, with your contact detail, to check status.
